Rachel Maddow is an award-winning American journalist serving as the host of The Rachel Maddow Show which airs on MSNBC Monday evenings at 9:00 pm ET. She also serves as the station’s special event co-anchor.

Maddow graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in public policy in 1994 and went ahead to receive a political science doctorate from Oxford University. She currently hosts The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC News making her the first openly lesbian anchor to present a major prime-time news show in the US. In 1999, Maddow started her career as a radio host at Holyoke, Massachusetts’s WRNX (100.9 FM), which at the time was the home of “The Dave in the Morning Show”. After that, she worked for two years as the Big Breakfast host on WRSI in Northampton, Massachusetts, until departing in 2004 to work for Air America.
She co-hosted Unfiltered on Air America with Chuck D and Lizz Winstead until its discontinuation in March 2005. The Rachel Maddow Show (radio), a two-hour weekday show that aired two weeks after Unfiltered was canceled in April 2005, gained a third hour in March 2008 and ran from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. EST. David Bender filled in for Maddow for the third hour, during her TV assignments.
In addition to serving as a correspondent for The Advocate Newsmagazine, an LGBT-focused short-form newsmagazine for Logo that drew news items from The Advocate, she made an appearance as a guest on Paula Zahn Now on CNN both before and after the election in November 2006. Maddow joined MSNBC in January 2008 as a political analyst. She frequently participated in panel discussions on MSNBC’s Race for the White House with David Gregory, covered elections for the network, and appeared on Countdown with Keith Olbermann.
Maddow was also a regular panelist on Tucker, an MSNBC show presented by Tucker Carlson. She also hosted Race for the White House in David Gregory’s absence. Olbermann pushed Rachel to have her own show on MSNBC, after succeeding in persuading Phil Griffin to give her Dan Abrams’ time slot. She then began hosting the nightly television program, Rachel Maddow Show(TV) on MSNBC.
